Amidst a possible cyclone brewing in the Bay of Bengal-Odisha goes on high alert

HnExpress Mayank Chakravarty, Weather Report : Odisha goes on high alert; NDRF, state forces kept on standby over possible cyclone formation in Bay of Bengal. Thunderstorm with lightening and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40kmph likely occur over some parts of districts of bhadrak, kandhamal, jajpur, cuttack , nayagarh, khorda (including bhubaneswar), ganjam, gajapati, nawarangpur, kalahandi, deogarh during next 3-4 hrs.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) senior scientist Umashankar Das told ANI, “The cyclonic circulation around Andaman sea will repeat tomorrow and move towards north-west. As per our estimate, wind speed now on would hover between 40-50 km/hr, it will further increase 8th May onwards and can go upto 75-80 km/hr”. Associated cyclonic circulation is extending up to mid tropospheric levels.



It is expected to move in the northwest direction and may intensify in a depression in next 48 hours. Another trough is extending from cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh to Meghalaya across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal. During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain with few heavy spells occurred over Gangetic West Bengal.
