Mukul Roy is still in the BJP, he has not changed his party: WB Speaker
HnExpress Bureau Report, Kolkata : Mukul Roy is in BJP. Krishnanagar North Center MLA did not leave the party. After a long hearing, Speaker Biman Banerjee informed again. He again rejected the allegation made by Shuvendu Adhikari. As a result, there was no possibility of Mukul losing his MLA post. Mukul Roy, the then All India Secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), joined the Saffron camp in November 2016.
A few years later, his son Shuvrangshu also defected. In 2020, he was given the post of All India Vice President of the BJP as a reward for his good work for the party. Mukul Roy won by a wide margin from Krishnanagar North Center almost without campaigning in the 2021 Assembly polls. After a gap of 3 and a half years, he made friends with the old team again. His son Shuvrangshu Roy also returned to the Trinamool.
The ‘son of the house’ was welcomed by Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee herself. Abhishek Banerjee, the All India General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress, welcomed Mukul. After that, the BJP demanded the dismissal of Mukul Roy’s MLA post. Leader of the Opposition Shuvendu Adhikari appealed to Biman Banerjee, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. BJP MLA Ambika Roy had filed a case in the High Court seeking dismissal of Mukul Roy’s MLA post. In that case, the High Court directed the Speaker to reconsider the decision. Following the order of the court, the Speaker examined the allegations made again. He again listened to the arguments of the opposition leader and Mukul’s lawyers. But the speaker’s decision did not change. He further said that Mukul Roy did not change his party. He is in BJP.
