HnExpress Ashoke Sengupta, koltata : Kolkata General Post Office, a historic iconic structure of Kolkata, is going to complete 150 years on 2nd October, 2018. The architect behind this heritage building was Walter B. Grenville and this magnificent building was completed in the year 1868. To celebrate this occasion, several activities have been planned from October 1st to 6th.
On 1st October, 2018 (Monday), at Kolkata GPO Building, at 11 AM, Extended portion of Postal Museum of Kolkata GPO will be inaugurated and a Special Cover on “Celebrating 150 years of Kolkata GPO” will be released by Ms. Arundhaty Ghosh, Chief Postmaster General, West Bengal Circle.
On 2nd October, 2018 (Tuesday), a Heritage Walk has been organised from Lalit Great Eastern Hotel Lobby to Kolkata GPO from 8 AM; and at 12 Noon, at Rotunda of GPO, Exhibition Hall & a Philatelic Exhibition will be inaugurated by Ms. Arundhaty Ghosh, Chief Postmaster General, West Bengal Circle.
Quiz, Letter Writing, Sit & Draw competitions will be held on 3rd & 4th October, 2018 at GPO.
A Philatelic Workshop has also been organised on 5th October, 2018 at GPO. On 6th October, 2018 (Saturday), at 1:30 PM, at Rotary Sadan, premier of a Documentary Film on Kolkata GPO will be projected and a Coffee Table Book on GPO will be released by Mr. A. N. Nanda, Secretary, Department of Posts as the part of Sesquicentennial Celebration Ceremony.
